Are Computers bad for your eyes?

By Martin in Nigerian Factor - Thursday April 14, 2011 at 8:36:52. Nowadays a lot of people work full time jobs on their computers and must have experienced eye strain one time or the other without really knowing the root cause. How long you spend gazing into a computer screen can influence how bad your eyesight gets. Spending too much time on a computer can be really bad for your eyes and can lead to poor vision even before you reach 40. Several things to consider if you are a frequent computer user are: - How much time do you spend looking at the screen? - What kind of foods or drinks do you take during those times? - What is the nature on your work on the computer? - How often do you take a break? - Is your eyesight already bad? - Do you have frequent headaches? - Is your sit too high or table too low to cause you to crouch? - Do you have blurred vision - Are you using quality computer screens or VDUs? A lot of people in Nigeria may be already losing their sight due to any of these computer hazards but I think it is most especially due to low quality VDU's and bad habits. If you are going to use the computer for a day's job, here are some tips that can help protect your eyesight and make you feel much better: - Take breaks with your eyes away from the computer at least every 1 - 5 minutes - Stretch yourself frequently to reduce waist pain - Drink water regularly. - Use good quality Visual display units and wider screens - Desktop or screen should not be too high. It should be a couple of inches lower than you head so that when you look up a bit, you would be looking away from the screen - Your sit should not be too high but adjusted to reduce waist pain Final Tip: If you are having serious problems using a computer such as poorer vision and headaches, you could take a break or vacation for a week or two and just allow your eyes to rest. You should be back in form after that. You can also use eye drops to reduce the redness in your eyes.
