How to connect your mobile phone to the internet

Nowadays, most mobile phones have the capacity to connect users to the internet. In the good old days, internet connection was limited to desktop computers but as time and technology grew, internet usage extended to other devices like the laptop and now it happens that even printers, pdas, mobile phones and games are all now able to connect to the internet.

When a mobile phone is connected to the web and is navigating on sites, it is called mobile internet browsing or just mobile browsing. A couple of years ago, mobile phones were not able to do this but nowadays, it is very hard to get a new phone that does not have internet connectivity.

How do you connect your mobile device to the internet?
Well for one, you need to ensure that it it is internet capable and then:
- Confirm if your network provider is offering the service
- You have configured your device with the connection settings
- You are subscribed to a data plan

Now after doing those basics, all you need now do is to navigate to the mobile browser and go to your homepage.

Mobile phones are designed to be more effective and useful in browsing mobilized web sites such as wap or xhtml sites. It wouldn't be fair or smart to be using your mobile phone to do full scale browsing as this will slow down your experience or use up a lot of your data size.

Mobile browsing is more expensive than full browsing so in order to get the best experience from it, you should try to bookmark your regular sites and make sure that such sites are designed for mobile phones. Don't just connect to every site but focus on the ones you really trust.

Most mobile phones have the ability to browse the mobile web and they mostly do this using a platform know as GPRS. Although other later devices are now able to browse with 3 - 4G platforms.

Configuring your mobile phone for an internet plan
- You may need to contact your service provider first to send the settings or you may visit their corporate website to get the settings which you may then configure manually.
It takes only minutes and you are connected to the web.
